The Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC) participated in the successful conclusion of the Health Community of West Africa Association (HCOWA) Summit and Expo, held from 17 to 21 August 2026 at the Ghana International Mall in Accra.
The five-days Summit brought together healthcare professionals, policymakers, traditional medicine practitioners, researchers, investors, technology companies, and international partners from Ghana, China, West Africa, and beyond to explore opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and investment in healthcare.
Specialised Forums Drive Key Conversations

The programme featured specialised forums on traditional medicine, pharmaceuticals, kidney health, oncology, women’s health, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare, among other areas. Discussions underscored the growing importance of technology, quality healthcare products, appropriate diagnostic equipment, research, and capacity building in improving healthcare delivery.

TMPC Advocates for Stronger Traditional Medicine Standards

TMPC’s participation provided an opportunity to highlight the need to strengthen traditional medicine practice through improved standards, access to appropriate diagnostic technologies, quality-assured medicines, professional training, and stronger regulatory compliance.

Ghana–China Partnerships in Focus
The Summit also created space for dialogue between Ghanaian and Chinese stakeholders, with discussions centred on technology transfer, local manufacturing, investment, knowledge exchange, and sustainable partnerships. Participants emphasised the importance of moving beyond short-term assistance toward mutually beneficial partnerships that create lasting value for Ghana and the wider West African region.

A Shared Commitment
The closing ceremony brought participants together to celebrate the Summit’s achievements and reaffirm their commitment to continued collaboration in healthcare.
Looking ahead, the Registrar of the Traditional Medicine Practice Council (TMPC), DR. (MH) Yakubu Tobor Yussuf, aims to build on the relationships and opportunities established during the event, working with local and international partners to advance safe, quality, accessible, and sustainable traditional medicine practice in Ghana.
